New Year, New You by Pastor Chris Reese. Colossians 3:1-14
As we step into a new year, it’s a perfect time to reflect on where we’ve been and where God is calling us to go. The new year often brings resolutions, but for a believer, it’s an opportunity to align our hearts and lives with God’s Word. In Colossians 3:1-4, Paul reminds us to set our hearts and minds on things above, where Christ is seated. This passage offers us a roadmap for spiritual renewal and growth. Let’s look at three ways we can embrace a “New Year, New You” in Christ.
1st Point: Keep Your Heart and Mind on Jesus
A “New Year, New You” starts with a heavenly focus. Colossians 3:2 says, “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” When we fix our eyes on Jesus, our priorities shift from worldly distractions to eternal purposes. Spend time daily in prayer and Scripture to keep your heart aligned with His will.
2nd Point: Get Rid of Sinful Earthly Things
A fresh start begins with removing the weight of sin. Colossians 3:5 challenges us to “put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature.” Examine your heart for areas where sin may be lurking, and surrender them to Christ. Through confession and accountability, you can walk in freedom and newness of life.
3rd Point: Care for and Forgive Others
A transformed life reflects Christ’s love. Colossians 3:12-13 calls us to “clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” Forgive as the Lord has forgiven you, and prioritize caring for others in your family, church, and community. Loving others well is a hallmark of a renewed heart.
